FAQ:  What was it like to return to church after you healed from your coma?

Like many people, I went to church for a lot of reasons, including community, charity, social involvement and interesting sermons. The first time I stepped foot in church after waking up, I was overwhelmed by gratitude.  I was invited to light an advent candle and the spiritually transformative awakening I felt in that religious setting shocked me into the reality of the ideals religion points to. I felt keenly aware of God’s presence, and thus—immediately, necessarily—keenly aware of God’s love. It’s incredibly moving, and it’s just one of the ways my experience helped me understand the fundamental truths that underlie all religions.

Dr.Alexander. It was a joy n awe to read n your NDE experience. “ALL PRAISE AND GLORY TO OUR GOD” WHO made you experience Heaven.

Our GOD IS ONE SUPREME PRESENT EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME. He is V.Merciful n loving. HE requires for us to Glorify HIM &LOVE HIM DAILY as supplication or prayer. I’m a Muslim physician. Sufis has had marvellous experiences due to their diligent praying i.e

Hello Eben, my name is Geoffrey, and I found your story encouraging and peaceful. I have to say this ,that I know beyond any doubt that I use to be a drug addict and I had tried everything to stop drinking and taking drugs. One morning while I was in utter dispare I fell to the ground and called out to God, to reveal Himself to me or take my life from me. Jesus answered me, He completely answered my desperate and almost insanity call for relief from the dark, hopelessness of a 35yr struggle with drugs and alcohol. I didn’t expect to get a answer, but He took all of that away as if I had never done drugs and alcohol before. I had no withdrawals, no sickness and a joy had come into my life like I was a child again, I was 48yrs old when that happened and have a beautiful close relationship with God now. I believe your story, I just think that it’s not completed yet. I also know that Jesus died on the cross for us, and through Him there’s forgiveness by His Grace, God Bless

We all love positive NDE’s. And I have no doubt we live forever. Be very careful not to read into the account of any NDE experienced and explained by a created human being. I believe NDE’s certainly happen as I have a friend who experienced one. I am a follower of Jesus Christ -The Creator, not a person’s re-count of their NDE. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived the things that God has in store for those who love Him.” (1 Cor 2:9) God bless you.

“The fundamental truths that underlie all religions”. I have to stop and address this statement. Monotheism is fundamentally different from Polytheism or Pantheism. To get more specific, the Christian Gospel(which only a Christian truly understands) is fundamentally different from other religious systems. I’ll close with C.S. Lewis on Jesus Christ either being a Liar, Lunatic, or Lord.

Powerful testimony, Jesus is real, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God and Jesus. Ask him to reveal himself to you and he will, I have experienced and seen miraculous healings, signs and wonders through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the God agent on the earth, call upon him he will comfort, heal, teach you and give you peace.

I completely agree with you. Christ said he is the “narrow door” and the only way to salvation. He is the only way we can be saved as he is the only sacrifice given to cover the sin’s of the world. Amen.

    Hello Eben Alexander,
I have followed your journey with fascination. It has helped me with a central question about life: the apparent purposelessness of existence. One question that really burns inside is this:after your incredible journey (all the more credible because of your scientific empirical ‘nature’) your narrative explicitly excludes any reference to Christ or Christianity. Yet you have reverted back to your church. Is there something you would like to add about the authenticity of the Central Christian message, that Jesus was the son of God, died on the cross to atone for our sins and was resurrected? thank you, Sunil Shah, Cape Town, South Africa.

I had a NDE at age 5, but did not realize what it was. As I grew older I felt drawn to understanding “this feeling” of having been in the presence of Jesus at a young age and being “home” with Him. Over the years I experienced various episodes of pre-cognition and because of this I got curious on the scientific research of metaphysical experiences, spiritual experiences of Saints in the Catholic church history like bi-location, OBE, levitation, etc. The promise of eternal life beyond this material world makes perfect sense when reading the Bible and following the life of saints, the miracles recorded in history and the promise of what Christ meant by “being the WAY” to the Father. I am curious to read about those who like you had a NDE but witnessed the horrors of hell. A concept many do not believe is real. We will find out at the end of times I suppose! Will all souls be re-united and/or gathered for the final step of God’s promise of eternal joy, eternal peace, final judgment, the answer is YES according to NDE survivor Dr Gloria Polo who was shown by God many places during the two NDE she experienced after being hit by lightening that destroyed her internal organs (later returned to her by God). Also, there are moral absolutes and natural laws that are being violated in the name of individual “freedom” and ego living, I believe in the idea that each of us will have to stand in front of our Creator and physical life being played back as if it was a movie and we will be asked many questions about decisions we made in life. Look forward to your second book!

There was a book published by an E.R. doc who said mssny people he resuscitate came to consciousness in abject fear. They were terrified of something. While these are NDE’s, this doctor felt that these negative experiences were so bad thst yhey were immediately supressed. I am a Jewish believer in Messiah Jesus. The Bible says, “God is love.” He also said, “Unless you believe that I AM (the covenantal name of God from Ex.3:14), you will die in your sins,” John 8:28.

It seems that God is graciously giving testimony that we are created in His image. Our Creator is eternal, and so are we. This begs the question, where will you spend eternity?

Dr. Alexandar, I loved your book. I loved your inability to justly verbalize what you experienced because of it’s magnitude. I am LDS-Mormon and your experience helped strengthen my already strong belief about the hereafter. The vast knowledge you acquired in an instant shows we keep learning and progressing after this life. The worlds and creations without beginning or end and right here in our midst testifies of the scriptures that tell us heaven is close, within reach if we only knew how to access it, separated only by a veil. I love the theory of parallel universes, of space/time, it just makes sense. But what I loved most was your witness of a loving God. Love so beautiful and deep that you could not fully comprehend it but felt it completely. I have experienced this once in my life and treasure that memory more than any other. Thank you so much for sharing as I’m sure it was hard to do in your academic world. Thank you Thank you

I just finished reading Proof of Heaven and it has given me great solace. I have been thinking all day about the Earth-Worm’s-Eye; I do not really understand what this is Dr. Alexander described. Is it a type of purgatory or why did Dr. Alexander feel he was at this place?

I hope that the majority of people can come to see that while individual religions and dogmas have contradictions and weak points there is SOMETHING to them! We haven’t suddenly gotten smarter in such matters; our predecessors spoke of things like that of Dr. Alexander’s experience and we should honor those before us. If this means attending a church that your ancestors attended for centuries then maybe you should do it. You don’t have to agree with everything the pastor says. Tap into the eternal and overlook the temporary and trivial. And be careful about trying on some exotic religion as if making a fashion statement. You might just be disrespecting both their and your own tradition without meaning to.

Dr. Alexander, Your account strengthened my Buddhist faith to a great degree and I was already devout. The degree to which your experience echoed the teachings I have received is uncanny, phrase for phrase. I’m so glad to read that organ music resonates with your soul. I don’t now where you are with Hemi-Sync but I encourage you to look to your heart region, which is where your mind is located. While much of life leads to suffering, true wisdom resides in your mind and abides. You can feel it. It doesn’t erode or disappoint. I was also pleased to see you connecting with eastern religions. While the Divine is expressed in many ways, eastern religions bring an immediacy to the Divine and provide a practical path to enlightenment. It takes work, and I hope at some point in this mortal life you are clear that you are on a path and that you are doing the work. May the joy of your Divine gift be sustained in your heart.

I appreciate Dr. Alexander sharing his story with the world; this revelation should cause many to have hope in life after death.
Please consider the following scriptures from the Bible:

    Isaiah 9:2,
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great Light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them the Light hath shined.

    Isaiah 42:16,
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths they have known; I will make darkness Light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will do unto them, and not forsake.
There is SO much in the Bible about Light & darkness that confirms what Dr. A has described.
    Psalm 40, Duet. 5:23, Psalm 107:10, 14, Psalm 18:28, IJohn 1:1, etc.
In research about the spirituality of man, and the acknowledgements given to the research that followed the NDE, there is no mention of the Bible being used as evidence of what Dr. A experienced. Search the scriptures; God has much to say about His love, eternal life, restoring the soul and the future.

I have always had this sense of internal body vibration on a constant basis. I also have constant ringing sound in my head- could this be related to my body cell vibrations being more obvious and/or at a lower or higher frequency? If so, is it possible for me to control my internal vibrations to take away the ringing sound within my head? Also, after listening to your “Seeking Heaven” CD’s- colours seem brighter and more sharper in contrast- is this part of the process?? Thank you,

Dr Alexander my wife way back in January of 2012 saw you on the TV show Beyond and Back. That week you were on we looked at each other and said this man has a story to tell, it was many months before your book came out. I miss that show so much … so many people with wonderful stories. Yours was the best of all of them.

I certainly don’t want to espouse one faith over another. But depending on our cultural background I personally have found what I need in a very old ritualistic/full of glorious pipe organ music church. There is something to your idea that our souls can connect by centering prayer. Sundays with the choir and organ I am able to connect each week with God. It is amazing many times I feel for a few moments like I am being transported back hundreds of years to another time. One final thing, … Please those of you that are out there who because it is not your faith or NDE’s are bad in your opinion .. don’t post here on this blog and say “it’s the devil be careful” Please be loving to all of humanity like God wants us to be and as he is to all of his creation.
